Call to Action

call to action

An incredible thing happened last week. I played a small part in brightening a special family’s day. You might think of this call to action as a no-brainier, but I was a little hesitant. It had nothing to do with how much this family deserved this recognition, but more to do with my anxious mind. There’s a lot of unknowns when it comes to surprises.

I received an email from my new friend, Kristin, asking for prayer for her upcoming back surgery and the fact that her family would be missing their trip to Florida due to the surgery. I said a little prayer and responded to the email with some prayerful and encouraging words. Easy enough, I did what was expected of any friend. Then I received an update from my blogging group, Know someone in the DC area that needs some cheering up? Hmm, I knew Kristin could definitely need some cheering up, but I hesitated a bit. Why? Well, I wasn’t sure if Kristin liked surprises, if she was going to be available, if the gig was going to work, etc. Some many if’s, yet my heart was telling to forget the if’s and make this call to action. I asked God to make this Call to Action a blessing, and I pushed aside my anxiety and nominated Kristin and her family for the first-ever GigSalad Surprise.

God answered my prayer above and beyond, and things starting falling into place. Kristin’s nomination was accepted, her husband, Jeff was willing and able to help with the surprise. I was still a little unsure about the end result, so I didn’t share my call to action with anyone except Jeff and JoAnna of GigSalad.

JoAnna and I started exchanging emails about Kristin’s favorite things, colors, flowers, candy and gifts for their kids. JoAnna was talking about a balloon artist, Frozen gifts for Kristin and Jeff’s 3 girls, chocolate and flowers. My heart felt like it was going to burst thinking about how happy Kristin, Jeff and the girls would be. I couldn’t believe I was anxious in the beginning, but was so glad I overcame the if’s and made this call to action.

happy girls

Mac made this incredible palm tree balloon at home before the surprise.

There were a few kinks in the plan like hotspot availability, but even that worked out when Jeff was actually able to be there for the surprise instead of having to Skype in. This was a huge miracle because Jeff was driving home from DC on a Friday afternoon (DC traffic is horrible). God definitely had his hand in this surprise. Everything worked out better than I ever expected and for reasons even I didn’t know. The Florida trip was going to be a celebration of Kristin and Jeff’s girls recent adoption into their family.

Call to Action

Jeff and Kristin called me that night after the surprise to thank me for my call to action. I started to cry as they told me their story of GigSalad surprising them. Kristin was rushing to grab the right shirt to put on while Jeff was telling her someone was at the door for her. She could see GigSalad’s car in the street and was thinking salad? That’s weird, but then she came down stairs and realized it was a Gig with many components aka Salad (flowers, chocolate, gifts, and a Balloon Artist!). So many awesome surprises in one Gig.

Kristin invited JoAnna and her crew inside as they were given their surprises. Bright and cheery flowers and chocolate for Kristin. Frozen gifts for the girls, and Mac an amazing balloon artist, from James Creel & His Balloonery for the entire family to enjoy. Mac sat on the couch for an hour constructing huge balloon palm trees, monkeys, Elsa and Anna balloons. While Kristin and Jeff had the opportunity to share their beauty from ashes story of how their beautiful girls became apart of their family.

Kristin sent me this picture of all the surprises from her GigSalad surprise. I’m going to keep this picture forever to remind myself of what a little faith can accomplish, and never let the fearful if’s discourage me again.

Do you need a little push to make your own call of action? Then visit GigSalad’s Facebook or Twitter pages to find where GigSalad will be next and nominate someone you know that needs a little cheer in their life. Besides surprising unexpected people, GigSalad is an entertainment business that works with event planners or anyone that is organizing a party (perfect for kid birthday parties). GigSalad can coordinate balloon artists, face painters, magicians and more.

thank you

A special thank you to JoAnna, Shirene and Mac! The girls are signing they love you!

Kristin is still awaiting surgery. Maybe they’ll receive another miracle and get to go to Florida.

What a great idea! I’ve never heard of Gig Salad, but I’ll have to check them out. I live in the DC area and vouch for the traffic nightmare, especially on Fridays (4 hours per day is my husband’s typical commute), so it is really great that Kristin’s husband was able to make it home on time!
