Healthy Holidays! Can you imagine the difference it would make if we tweaked the common greeting,Happy Holidays? Maybe people would think twice about getting seconds at Thanksgiving dinner and less pie at their office party. Maybe people would smile more because they were walking during their lunch break instead of hurriedly shopping for gifts. I decided to put my own spin on Healthy Holidays and share with you a healthy recipe for hurried moms that need a nutritious breakfast (the most important meal of the day). The holidays are busy, and us moms need to stay healthy.
For the past 7 weeks, I’ve been training with the Kiqplan 10k Run Ready app. It’s been a wonderful journey, and I’m actually glad that it coincides with the holidays. I find myself exercising more with 2 runs per week and at least 1 strength training today. Today, I pushed myself to the 4 mile mark! All the exercising motivates me to choose healthy meals and snacks. There’s a nutrition component to the app that provides recipes and that’s where I found my Healthy Oats recipe.
In the spirit of Christmas, I added a little holiday cheer to the recipe by preparing it in my Chalkboard Blessings Christmas mug from Family Christian store. I love how I can easily write the contents “Healthy Oats” on the mug with chalk (comes with the mug). I also wrote the recipe on some festive recipe cards also from Family Christian. Each card has the verse,”Behold I bring you good tidings of great joy!” Luke 2:10. I know the verse refers to the angels proclaiming the good news of Christ’s birth, but I think the Healthy Oats recipe will bring my friends great joy when they enjoy a delicious breakfast and have energy for the rest of the day. Sharing a healthy recipe with friends and family also makes a wonderful gift. So this Christmas, let’s choose to have both a healthy and happy holiday!
