Salsa Dancing & a Workout
A couple of years ago, my husband and I took dance lessons. Each week, we had a sitter come over and watch the boys while we learned to Tango. We enjoyed it so much that we also learned ballroom dancing. We were really hoping to learn how to Salsa, yet after a few months of paying for a sitter and dance lessons, it got expensive. Unfortunately, we had to call it quits.
Until I found the Salsa Dance Workout DVD. They were looking for bloggers to review their DVD, and I wanted to learn how to Salsa (a perfect fit). I ordered the DVD from Amazon, and as a Prime member I received free shipping. Two days later, the DVD arrived and I was ready to Salsa.
I was hoping to jump right in and start shaking it like Shakira, but the instructional starts with stretching, a good idea when you’re going to be using muscles that you normally don’t move. After stretching, the lessons began. A man and a woman appear on the screen. The man moves slower than the woman and talks about each step. “Forward, back, quick, slow,” he repeats. Then he begins counting. I’m not the most coordinated dancer on the planet, so the counting really helped me. The couple demonstrates a side step, a back step and a turn step, and then they put it all together. First without music, then with music. The pace starts slow so you can find your rhythm and gradually build up to the shaking.
The DVD provides detailed instruction and exciting music sequences. Once I seemed to figure out the Salsa moves, I asked my husband to join me. He’s a coordinated, fast-learner and he picked it up quickly+.
I love that the DVD is more than one-time lesson. While it teaches you a new dance, it also provides a fun workout. Now I just need to find a place for my husband and I to get our Salsa groove on. Do you like to dance?
